Weekly Update

Life has been very busy lately and we haven’t been able to explore around town as much as we like.  I’ve decided to start a weekly update post.  We want to stay in touch with our readers.  We want to recap our previous week and then glance ahead to what we have coming in the next week.

Last week we posted about two products: The Original Tweak Strainer and the Aeneontrue Frog Button Hooded Coat. I also created a post on my Top 10 Apps to Make or Save you $Money$.  You can click on the article title above if you missed it and would like to go back and read them.  I think out of the 2 products I really love the coat but the arms are very tight.  I also have larger arms so I’m not (cough, cough) “standard size.”  If you like easy ways to make or save money be sure to check out the list of apps I use.

Next week and going forward expect to see a pattern to the articles we release.  Every week we will try to include a list of apps or a review of a singular app.  We will also have 2-3 posts that are reviews of products, services, or places.  I recently ordered some interesting things online including a new silk boho dress, neon dry erase markers for my black goals board, cloth pads (with charcoal liners), bath bomb molds, mustard seed oil.  We also have 2 products to review that we already have: stretchable lace camisole, Mind Reader “Hero” 36 pod drawer system, and Skidders slippers.  I also have a new laptop on the way.

Original Tweak Strainer

We purchased this to use at Rufo’s house.  He has a large metal sink.  It looks a lot like a singular industrial kitchen sink.  It can easily get clogged if food particles get into the drain.  I figured we would try this out to see how well it works in his sink.

It looks good visually.  It appears sturdy and seems to work as promised.  I examined it by assembling it and trying out the action by squeezing the fat end together.  The sides came up and appeared they would easily hold and allow me to easily carry and dispose of any caught refuse.

I placed it in his sink and left it there for a while.  I’ve noticed that while it does catch large particles as promised it doesn’t seem to stay in place.  It doesn’t seem to work as well as the metal strainers you can purchase which slide into the drain.  This one sits on top and can easily be knocked out of place.  I’d like to see something added to help it suction to the sink to prevent it from being dislodged easily.

EKOCUPS Organic Artisan Mexican Coffee, Medium Roast, in Recyclable cups,10 count

Rating: 5 out of 5 Skulls

Price: $6.99 for 10 K-cups

I love buying these small boxes of coffee.  I feel like it’s a great way to explore different brands and styles of coffee.  I’d love to try some of the other K-cup products available on the market.  Since I’ve been purchasing K-cups I’ve become more aware of how many of these tiny plastic cups I throw away each month.  I LOVE that these are recyclable!

I’m also in favor of the Organic  coffees so I’m happy to say this is also Organic.  EKO Cups have a great design and concept for their Organic, Fair Trade Mexican coffee.  These come in a pack of 10 so they are great for a trial or to share with friends.  Rufo and I shared the box between our 2 houses.  His mover even had an opportunity to try this Mexican coffee and really enjoyed it.

I typically go for a dark roast but this medium roast was light but still had a great flavor after my usual add-ins (almond milk and honey).  Rufo likes his black or with just honey.  We always use local honey.  It’s beneficial if you have outdoor allergies to eat some local honey every day.

If you like a medium or dark roast I would recommend this coffee.  Not only does it taste great but it’s great for the environment.

White Coffee Organic Single Serve Coffee, Breakfast Blend, 10 Count

Rating: 4 out of 5 Skulls

Price: $4.62

Contents: 10 count K-cup individual serving of White Coffee’s Organic Breakfast Blend.

I recently acquired a Keurig over the holidays.  My budget is limited but I like to try new things and of course how could I reset a box of K-cups that were under $10.00.  I rather enjoy coffee.  It’s my second favorite morning beverage other than water.  The next question everyone asks is “How do you take it?”  In other words, how do I like my coffee?  Do I want sugar or cream or perhaps something else?

Here’s my secret.  I like really strong coffee….but I need to add my version of “cream” and my version of “sugar.”  I like it served with almond or coconut milk and either coconut sugar or local honey.  I like to take the edge off, cut the acidity but I still want to taste the coffee.

I was skeptical when I ordered this.  Often Breakfast blends tend to be too mild for me.  I prefer and espresso or a nice dark roast.  I was pleasantly surprised.  Even after the addition of my “milk” and “sugar” I could still taste the coffee.  It was a lighter taste but was still able to shine through my palatable additions.

I was attracted to the fact that this coffee is Organic and biodegradable.  I feel less guilty about throwing the cups out instead of using a reusable one.  I was also attracted to the price.  This was a great little sample pack or for someone who doesn’t drink a lot of coffee. I purchased this one and 2 others at the same time in order to be able to rotate, sample, and of course share some with Rufo.

We both really enjoyed this blend and it’s almost gone.  I guess we will need to order more!  Perhaps we can find other blends by White Coffee.

LESHINE 3D Head Mount VR Glasses Gen. 2 3.0-6.0 iPhone/Android

Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Price: $25.99

If you haven’t experienced VR (Virtual Reality) you are missing out!  Rufo introduced me to this awesome new affordable technology using his Occulus VR headset.  After trying out his much more expensive headset I decided to try a more affordable one of my own.

This headset offers a very affordable VR experience.  It works with Google Cardboard and other VR applications.  I’m currently using a Note 4 in this device.

In order to game better I also purchased a small Bluetooth gaming remote.  If you plan on gaming I would recommend purchasing one of those as well.

The apps worked well in the headset, it was easy to adjust the vision and it fit nicely on my head. I was able to use it for a few days before I accidentally smudged a lens.  I went to carefully clean the lens with a soft cloth and immediately with the lightest pressure the lenses popped out of their placement.

It was nearly impossible to get them back in place.  Because of the design the headset is impossible to open.  I had to craft some tools to put the lenses back in place. I’m sure that there are permanently fingerprints on the lenses.

Adbama Natural Silk Sleep Mask with Adjustable Strap

2

Rating: 5 out of 5 Skulls

If you are like me and you have trouble sleeping unless it’s totally dark you may want to try this sleep mask!  It’s comfortable, soft, and silky.  It’s adjustable.  It also comes with earplugs if you need to block out sounds.  They look to be good quality.  I do better with sound and it’s for me it’s very uncomfortable to wear ear plugs for extended periods of time.  This eye mask also comes in a nice plastic zippered pouch making it great for travel.

Viva Naturals Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

Rating: 5 out of 5 Skulls

Price: $12.99

I use Apple Cider Vinegar for so many things.  I use it for cleaning, rinsing my hair, flea protection for my cats.  It’s best to use organic ACV that contains the “mother” or natural organisms.

I purchased this bottle to put in my spare bathroom.  I use it for cleaning.  I also use it when bathing my cats.  It helps heal their skin from scratches and to prevent fleas.  I prefer to use natural products whenever I can.

I’ve used this a few times on my hair as a rinse and on my cats and it has worked fantastically.  I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).

ZANZEA Ladies Cotton Linen Round Neck Two-layer A-line Baggy Maxi Dress

Rating: 4 out of 5 Skulls

This is another great inexpensive dress I’ve purchased off of Amazon using Snagshout.  Regardless of my discount this dress is quite affordable.

Price: $24.69

Initial Review:

I love the fabric.  It’s lightweight and very easy to wear and move around in.  The dress consists of 2 layers of fabric in different colors.  The bottom layer is a creamy white and features hidden pockets.  The top layer is a muted red and it attached to the bottom layer.  The scarf is the same creamy white color as the bottom layer of the dress and looks nice draped over my shoulders. I don’t know how to describe the style of the dress.  My best explanation of the style is somewhere between hippie and Star Wars.

Fit:

If you’ve read other clothing reviews I’ve done you may remember that I’m 5’2″ and about a size 20-22.  The dress was well fitted in the bust. It could even be worn by someone who had a more ample bust than I.  The dress doesn’t cling to my stomach but still allows me to look voluptuous.

Con:

After about a month I had a seam come undone on one side.  I was able to repair it easily.

ZANZEA Beach Long Maxi Dress

Rating: 5 out of 5 Skulls

Size/Fit: 22 Women’s (plus-size).  This dress fits wonderfully on me.  I have a larger bust so I have to wear a sports bra or something underneath to prevent exposing myself to others.  The dress doesn’t cling and flows nicely.

Occasion: You can wear this for multiple occasions.  I’ve put a shirt on over it or paired it with a sweater and worn it to work.  I’ve also worn it out casually with just my sports bra on underneath.  It would also make a great bathing suit cover up.

Price: $17.99

Seller: Amazon (Aosh)

Eligible for Prime: Yes

Date Purchased: September 2016

I really enjoy wearing this dress.  I’m quite a modest person when it comes to work so I often pair it with leggings, a shirt, or a sweater.  Once I’m out of work I remove the extra layers and just enjoy the free movement of this dress.  The fabric is a bit thin and I tend to only wash them and hang them to dry rather than using the dryer. Despite weekly wear it is still in great condition.

Maple Holistics Sage Shampoo Anti-dandruff

Rating: 4 out of 5 Skulls

I’ve been using this shampoo since the end of July 2016.  I often end up with dandruff and buildup on my scalp.  I also prefer hair products that are as close to natural as possible.  Before I started using this in my washing routine I was starting to get embarrassed by my scalp.  I looked like there was something wrong with me.  Seriously!

I started looking into “No-Poo.”  I started off with the baking soda wash and apple cider vinegar rinse.  This worked well for a while but then it got out of hand.  I learned that detoxing your scalp takes time. lol.

I only wash once every 4 days.  By the time I wash my hair it usually needs it badly.  This shampoo not only helps prevent dandruff but it also acts as a clarifying shampoo.  I find it leaves my hair feeling very clean and my scalp feels wonderful afterwards.

Now that I’ve been using this for a few months I often combine it with other natural shampoos I use.  I often use it first and let it sit on my scalp 2-3 minutes to allow the nutrients to sink in and then I wash a second time using my other concoctions.

It smells wonderful if you love mint and sage. I love it.  The only downside is it costs $12.95.  If you are not a daily washer it will last a lot longer.  I think I’m not even half-way through my bottle and I’ve had it since July.

I would definitively recommend this product!
