Rating: 1 out of 5 Skulls
Today I received a new product from Walmart’s sample program. It’s a new antiperspirant spray. The smell is “Cool Essentials” and it features a light green lid on a white bottle with a slice of cucumber on the bottle. It claims to be a dry spray that lasts up to 48 hours. It also claims to be non-irritant.
I happen to be allergic to most deodorants and antiperspirants. I often wear the clear jell antiperspirant that is hypo-allergenic. I can’t even get away with just wearing deodorant because I’m actually sensitive to my own sweat. I can wear Tom’s and the clear stuff and that’s all I’ve been able to wear for years without incurring a nasty rash breaking out.
I tend to use more natural products so of course I’m not thrilled to read the back of this bottle to see the active ingredients and various other warnings and chemicals.
Active Ingredient: Aluminum Chlorohydrate – 20.2%
Inactive Ingredients: Butane, Hydroflurocarbon 152a, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isobutane, PPG-14 Butyl Ether, Fragrance, Sunflower Seed Oil, Disteardimonium Hectorite, C12-14 Alkyl Benzoate, Propane, BHT, Octyldodecanol, Propylene Carbonate, Dimethiconol, Tocopheryl Acetate
- Keep away from mouth and face and avoid breathing it in.
- Avoid spraying in eyes (You know they have warnings for a reason….).
- Do not puncture or incinerate – Contents under pressure
- Do not use on broken skin, discontinue use if a rash or irritation occurs.
- Ask a doctor before using if you have kidney disease (what’s in this?).
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Use only as directed.
Directions: apply to underarms only.
After I shower and shave in the morning I plan to use this spray to see exactly how it stands up to the test.
I applied the antiperspirant spray after I took my shower. Honestly, I’m not crazy about how chemical it smells. Now that I’m used to more natural or unscented products it’s hard to tolerate such an artificial smell.
I was really concerned that I would have an allergic reaction but luckily I did not develop the normal rash I get from other deodorants or antiperspirants. It seemed to hold up well during the day. My work team went to a miniature theme park where I rode go-karts and played laser tag. The Dove Dry Spray held up well.
The next morning I woke up to find that I was still mostly dry, with no rash, however I was a bit sticky. I wasn’t able to wear it for the full 48 hours. I’m honestly not sure it would have held up that entire time, especially if I was active.
I’m giving the Dove Dry Spray 1 out of 5 Skulls. I’m not a fan and I happily went back to my clear, unscented, gel antiperspirant today. I think someone less sensitive and plans on going 48 hours without bathing would love this product.
