Shaka Dogs – Palm Bay Florida

Rating: 5 out of 5 Skulls

Date: 3/30/17

We’ve both eaten here individually before but this was our first time eating here together.  They had a burger and fries on special which looked good to Rufo so we ended up there.  I ordered something similar to what I had last time.  I ended up with the chicken nachos and of course he had the burger.

The nachos are not your typical plate of nachos.  1. There are no tortilla chips.  2.  There is no cheese.  What they use are homemade potato chips.  On top of those chips is delicious chicken topped with teriyaki sauce and spicy mayo remoulade.  This is an amazing twist on your typical nacho and it’s a great twist!

Rufo had a hearty burger with french fries.  He had the burger done medium well.  I snuck a taste of his burger and his fries.  Both were amazing and cooked to perfection.

They also do amazing shaved ice!  The prices are reasonable.  The atmosphere is relaxing and the food is as close to Hawaii as you can get in Florida. lol

Melbourne Toy and Comic Con

The Melbourne Toy & Comic Convention is a small, family-friendly con located in Melbourne at the Auditorium.  This convention is held twice a year.  Rufo and I have been to the last 2 (October 2016/March 2017).  On both occasions we’ve had the pleasure of talking to George Lowe (better known as the voice of SpaceGhost and other popular animated voice characters).

On both visits we’ve spent significant time talking to George and listening to his witty banter with other con-goers and vendors.  We always are sure to purchase a signed print off of the table and get a picture with him.  If  you are in the area and are a fan of the show or any of the other shows he’s worked on I would advise you to stop by his table and have a chat.

This con features a small game and kids room, a few workshops and talks.  The bulk of the con is the vendors.  If you are looking for comics, toys, or POPs then you’ve come to the right place.  Both times we’ve acquired some new art.  This time we purchased the signed print from George Lowe, 2 Spiderman prints, Edgar Allan Poe – Raven, Tesla, and Ash v the Evil Dead print.

It isn’t an expensive convention so it’s a great way to waste a Sunday.  There are always neat things to buy.  I picked up a 3D puzzle of a praying mantis.  I haven’t had time to assemble him yet.

If you are in town for the next convention, stop by – geek out a little.  🙂

Kid-A-Palooza – Kona Luau 40+ Food Trucks!!!!!

We had a lot of fun at Kid-A-Palooza/40+ Food Truck Event.  This event was held at Wickham Park in Melbourne Florida.  We did not bring any children for the Kid portion of this adventure but we did bring our appetites.

Entering the event looked like a cross between kiddie and foodie heaven.  On the right for as far as I could see were giant inflatable bounce houses and slides.  The kid in me was secretly dying to go have a jump. lol!  On the left circling all the way around until they met the bounce houses on the right were the food trucks.  Food trucks as far as the eye could see.

We decided to try to amp up our appetites by checking the vendors that had been placed creatively in the middle of the area between kiddie and foodie heaven.  Of course most of the vendors catered to children or parents.  There were a variety of activities for children to do while they were there or for them to sign up to do later.  There was a booth filled mostly with reptiles but also a few not often seen mammals.  There was also an awesome surf board/skateboard booth.  After we had finished looking at each booth we decided it was time to plan out our lunch.  What to eat?

There were so many choices.  We started at the entrance and moved clockwise around the arena.  We had looked at the list of trucks before we left so we could have an idea of what we wanted.  In the benefit of interest we still decided to do a full lap around carefully looking at each truck to be sure we hadn’t changed our minds.

Rufo stuck with his original decision and tried PizzaCone.  They basically make eating pizza ultra portable by shaping the dough into a cone and filling the inside with pizza sauce and toppings.  Rufo choose bacon and pepperoni.  I had a few bites and it was amazing.  I almost went back to purchase another one.

I had originally planned on purchasing ceviche from one of the trucks.  I changed my mind when I read the words “Bacon Fried Rice”  on the front of Samson’s Grill.  We’ve all had pork fried rice of course….but this….this was bacon fried rice.  I also had my choice of either Teriyaki chicken or Bourbon chicken.  I decided on the bourbon chicken with bacon fried rice and an egg roll.   Everything was amazing and delicious.  Typically I don’t each much in one setting but I cleaned the plate.

We had a lot of fun and great food.  Can’t wait until the next food truck event!

Gods and Monsters – Orlando, Florida

Date: 12/29/16

Time: mid-afternoon (after our stop at Soupa Saiyan)

Where: Gods and Monsters in the Artegon Mall

Address: 5250 International Drive STE E8, Orlando, Fl 32819

Their website: Gods and Monsters

Rating: 5 out of 5 skulls

We initially planned to go jump at the indoor trampoline place in the Artegon Marketplace.  We had just eaten and decided to walk around first.  We saw many neat and interesting shops but God’s and Monsters was by far the most amazing store we’ve ever seen!

The staff were in plain clothing and were very friendly.  We encountered several of the staff members while we made our way around the store and eventually settling at the bar.  Honestly there are so many amazing geeky/nerdy things in this store it’s difficult to know where to begin.

How about Predator and Aliens?

As we journeyed around the enormous store we noticed these amazing replica displays everywhere.  The store has a very unique quality about it.  It’s like a museum but a museum that is for sale.  Almost everything we saw was for sale.

The prices in the store were comparable to the quality of merchandise you were purchasing.  Are things expensive?  If they are super awesome you had better be ready to lay down some cash.

If I ever win the lottery….this store is not safe for my wallet.

Remember the “Garbage Pail Kids?”

I had a ton of these cards.  One of my best friend’s is a

derby dame and is named for one of the Garbage Pail Kids.

So much nostalgia and geekery in one store!

Spiderman and Iron Man!

Slimer!!!    “Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!”

These two….they kill me!

Just hanging out with Deadpool!

Gundams and Street Fighter.

Zoltar is probably one of my favorite pieces in this shop.

I don’t even know how to begin to describe this display.  There is so much going on but somehow it all makes sense.

I regret I didn’t get the painting above the display captured in the photo.

Going from top to bottom the things that really stand out to me are E.T., Rocky, Ghostbusters Monopoly, Bill Murray in GB, Stay Puff (the large one and the tiny one), the GB figurines below and Jaws.

The Bar

Can anyone name this movie?

Yes, they serve alcohol!

The counter of the bar was made up of these awesome B-movie cards sealed in acrylic.

How many characters can you name?
